I am looking for a good book on early automotive education for myself and my son as we work on our new/old CJ. I already bought the service manual. I saw a post earlier recommending an older book called Automotive Fundamentals by Venk. Any other suggestions? Looking for the basics here. Also if I have the service manual is there any reason to get the parts list as well?

This is a good idea.
Everyone's going to have a personal perspective on this. I'd recommend looking at this list (specifically the CJ3B Bookshelf) for some excellent reference material:

I've owned a Chilton's since the beginning (before I even knew a Service Manual was available). I like its Troubleshooting chapter. Helped me a lot.
I recommend the Parts Manual as it helps with knowing specific details, i.e. bolt size, names/part numbers (when ordering) and illustrations too. I've been able to actually ask better questions here because I knew better how to describe what I needed to know. It also details the Groups that each system is located in - also helping with description and understanding.

Awesome. Thanks!
