Title: D18 shift fork orientation

Finally beginning the assembly process on a D18 rebuild. 

All the guides out there have you orient the high/low shift fork so that the lock screw faces closer wall of the case (near the drain plug).  (e.g. Rick Stivers') (http://cj3apage.com/index/Tech_Tips/Model%2018%20Rebuild.htm)

Am I crazy or does the exploded view on the part's list drawing show the opposite?  I trust the rebuild guides out there.  Just wondering if I'm interpreting this wrong.

I'll say this much.  There's been a few times when others have posted errors or peculiarities with Service Manual illustrations.  Sometimes the images are borrowed from earlier vehicles or may have been manipulated or altered.

I'd think the most important thing is are the forks oriented correctly.  I've not spent a whole lot of time on the transfer case rebuild guide but know there was a lot of collaboration on the transmission rebuild guide. 

Sometimes, it takes a simple question like this for others to even notice a discrepancy.

 Hi, the selector  forks are handed with the boss protruding further out on one side. As far as I can recall this larger side should face the rear of the box regardless of where the securing bolts are located. Your schematic should be able to confirm this. If they are inserted the wrong way they won't work. Good luck.

It really does only go together one way and that becomes obvious as you proceed.
