Ladies and Gentleman: I would like to permanently remove the e-brake from my cj3b. I know it attaches to the rear drive shaft and I was wondering if this is something anyone has done and what parts I would need. thanks!

I resisted the temptation of asking the question, since I went through great lengths to get all my missing parts to get the hand brake back into operation. I am curious though.
That said, my jeep was bought without a hand brake. All it came with was the cane handle on the instrument panel, the backing plate attached to the transfer case and the brake drum; nothing else. So, remove any component, i.e. the cable or the pads or actuating arm and you eliminate the hand brake.
What I don't know is if you could or why you should remove the backing plate from the transfer case or attempt an assembly of the companion flange to the drive shaft without a drum in place. I've never seen that before so I'm not sure what issues you could run into.

To do this is simple remove all the brake parts and replace the companion flange with one like on the front of the transfercase. I have no Drive line mounted E brake because I Have modern 11" Drum brakes on the back of my 2A and it has internal E Brakes which I made a fancy Balance bar system and have hooked up to the Dash mounted Cane.

Be mindful when you replace the companion flange with a regular U-joint, your driveshaft needs to be another inch longer to end up the same place on the spline travel.

Even though we don’t do state-required safety inspections in Colorado any more, all of the rules, regulations, and requirements are still in place and enforceable. So the parking brake must be in place and working. (Who’s really going to know?) A better system, such as Mark’s, would be acceptable. But - When your jeep rolls away and crashes into your neighbor’s living room and their lawyer discovers that you knew the parking brake doesn’t work or worse yet that you removed it, well, as Pop would say, you’ve got your tail in a crack. I can’t even imagine driving any of my jeeps without a parking brake.

It must be a "situation" more often than one would think, as in most of the pics we see of 'Willys parked on an incline', there is the famous chunk of wood or tree, or a rock or brick wedged at a tire location. :-)

Bruce is right. I can't imagine not having my E brake. I use it all the time. with the internal 11" E brakes I just press down on the brake pedal and give the cane a yank. Sets the brake very solid.
The balance bar setup I designed to operate the internal E brakes with the original dash Cane is pretty elaborate but it also adds leverage to the cane.

That's some serious engineering! Your shop must have some fun toys!

I think the only "Toys" used for the Balance bar was my 4x6 bandsaw and my 1/2" Jet drill press. I think the Round mount was just cut from some Aluminum stock I had. I MIGHT have trued the ends on the 9X20 Central Machine lathe I have. not sure.
