Title: 1949 CJ3A Data Plate
Post by: Gerhard Genis on November 01, 2021, 08:18:24 AM
I bought a 1949 LHD CJ3A Willys locally in South Africa without a data plate. I started to restore it. For me to re-introduce it back to the  South African roads, I need the original or a used data plate that was on a Willys that was decommissioned/scraped. Is there anyone that perhaps has such a plate of a vehicle that was decommissioned/scraped that I can buy? Or do you know how to get hold of such a vital item? I've already bought a new data plate from Kaiser Willys. My challenge is as stated: to re-introduce it to the South African roads as 1949: the local authorities want the/an original data plate. If I cannot produce the latter, they will issue a "SAPVIN" and register it as a 2021 model. That: I want to avoid.

Gerhard,
What an interesting problem.  Most try to restore or replace original plates when restoring the jeep.  If you had an original plate and spent hours restoring it, would they be okay with that?

I have used dataplates4u.com to replace mine.

Have you looked into distressing or adding weathering to a dataplate for inspection?
