Title: Question: Which windshield fits a 3B and how to identify it?
Post by: jbjeeps on April 10, 2021, 11:34:42 AM
Hi all, I rescued this 3B from a friends boneyard a couple years ago.  It's the late body style with the round vent on right front of tub, no VIN plate. Hood, grill and fenders are good, body is rough but can be repaired.  I need a windshield. Will only a 3B windshield fit? How do I i.d. the correct one? TIA!

jb,

Congrats on your new project!

You're asking about the windshield frame?  The 3B frame looks different from other frames.  The early 2A frames are tubular, have an inner frame where the glass folds out and have sharp square corners at the top.  The 3A, like the 3B frame, are mad of a square tube bent around to form rounded top corners with a slightly curved arch across the top of the frame.  Between these 2 the easy identifier is the distance between the lower edge (contact with cowl) and the bottom edge of the glass.  The 3A here has a larger piece of sheet metal big enough to have its signature air vent.

A quick visual showing the differences of the 3A vs. 3B  w/s frame:

This was in the DJ section but illustrates a good comparison between the 2 styles.

I have an aftermarket frame I was planning on using until my rebuild took a sharp turn.  I'd offer it but think shipping would make it too costly.

The 2A and 3A could be fitted but wouldn't sit right on the 3B.  There are threads of owners showing their farm jeeps doing chores without a w/s at all - but that also means no top.

You may also want to check nearby salvage yards or parts suppliers.  I've used this list (it's dated but still could be helpful):

Rus, thank you for this excellent reply.  I really appreciate the time you spent on putting it all together, great information.  That's exactly what I needed to know.  I'll use it when I go out looking.  Jack
