Title: Drop and clean oil pan
Post by: Mytwojeeps2020 on November 24, 2020, 10:13:09 AM
I need to clean my oil pan due to a large a mount of gas that has gotten into my oil system.

I’m not looking forward to it: I’ve never dropped it before and I’m operating on a dirt floor. I’m not a mechanic.

Before I do this, I have a question:  is there some sort of a cleaning fluid I can pour down the oil filler tube to scrub that gas (after which I could just pull the drain plug and let it drain out)?

Thanks!

I responded to your other post before realizing you'd started one specifically on the oil pan.  I don't personally believe you need to pull the pan for gas.  It is a petroleum product (it does seem to mix fairly well with oil) and will evaporate faster than a lot of other chemicals but should be flushed out of all the galleys with some cheap oil.  If pulled I'd pay attention to the flange and inspect the float.  After all leaks are fixed AND no more upchucking, you can change oil with better oil and ZDDP.

Thanks, Rus. I’ll try the oil flush first.
