Title: $2000 project?
Post by: Kjone013 on June 09, 2020, 11:02:17 PM
So question on this. The owner didn’t seem to know much about it other than “a military era Jeep”. So it runs and has a title. Obviously it’s not military and somebody did a “paint job” but the body looks to be solid from the pics.

Would you all say 2000 is a fair price? It looks to be a 3A but I don’t know the year.

Well those pics are pretty blurred, so it’s teally hard to tell much about the body condition.
It appears to be setting out in the rain and what’s up with that grill having no slats ?
Anyway most any running Jeep for only $2 k with  title is getting hard to find.
If it’s got a a proper 3a title it’s a very good prospect.

I have family in the area I’m going to have a look at it for me. but I think the grill has one of those cold weather grill covers on it.

Another question wasn’t sure about yes did they have bro bars on the jeeps about age. I’m not sure when those started

Well that’s an aftermarket roll bar.
I believe that the first factory roll bars became available in 1969.

I agree with Oldtime!  From what I can see, a $2,000.00 runner with a clean title is a good price.

Some additional photos could show it to be a absolute steal.

Wow.  $100.00 for a 10 hour round trip delivered.  The seller is motivated.

Be sure to show us what you got.  Good luck.

Yeah if its running even a little, body is in one piece, and the frame isn't hacked up, its worth around 2k. Be prepared to spend a lot more getting it roadworthy. Its not unusual for literally every part to be worn out.

So it took a week longer but I got the Jeep. Sn 451-GB1-13408.

It looks to be pretty good shape. It looks to previously been a red color and I’m pleased with them not cutting out the tail lights original on the back. It definitely has been used in abused but considering the shape it’s in, and it runs and drives.

My question is that chain on the rear leaf springs any idea what that Is about?

Looks solid for the price.  Great contrast pic of old and new in the driveway.  I'm guessing the chain is because they have the wrong  bushings and shackles in the eyelets, and definitely have play in those bolts, so they are maybe trying to keep it 'squared up' to the pivots, that hopefully have the correct bushings for alignment there.  Along with the "Jeep" stamp, I'd say it is an earlier model that should have the "U" type shackles and big bushings.  The older pics kinda look like the front may still have them?  All considered, and it runs and with a title, IMO you are in good "investment shape", and for it's age "used", it is too.  My floor was crushed some what in places, even had holes punched thru it, and that was a "chore" to straighten single handed.  That might be easier and quicker to get a "replacement floor".  I removed the axle, placed plywood weighted down with concrete blocks for resistance, and laid on my back and hammered it up.  Note, wear goggles, and ear muffs, and keep your mouth shut!!!  Then I placed it under the floor with the body weight laid down on it to shape from the top, using "filler pieces" in the raised ribs from below, and repeat STAT.  It was NOT fun, or quick to get it smooth.  Someone holding a "shaping dolly" instead, would be a BIG HELP!  Enjoy the challenge.
