Help. I am putting my 49 Cj3a back together and I have gotten to the Koenig box. There are 5 “special bolts” that connect the aluminum case to the transmission. When I went to clean them up it appears that the lock washers have packing around them. The packing looks like water pump packing from my model A. The lock washers are knurled on their outside face. Since the Koenig is splash lubed from the transmission anyway, what is going on?
Any facts/opinions are welcome

Ps. This is one special bolt / washer, and a second disassembled washer.

The sealed washers are not correct for the Koenig PTO drive.
You should have Allen head bolts and very thick square edged split lock washers. (As shown in pic)

Thanks I didn’t see any reason for the packing. Nuf said
