Title: metal vacuum line on windshield hinge

I just ran the rubber line when I put my jeep together, always meaning to replace it.

I took the picture a couple years ago. This is a jeep a broker bought, painted and sold.

Was the line copper? Steel? The one in the picture almost looks like brake line.

What was the diameter?

Were the fasteners somehow fused to the line or just a tight fit?

Randy,
I used 1/4" steel line.  It looked the same.  Then the 1/4" hose should slip on.  Those clips are just "P" clips or wire clips but for 1/4" size.

I used my old one as a pattern to "rough out" the basic shape.

Once I get to the windshield frame, I will tweak it to ensure it hugs the frame.

You can also use images of that line showing where it sits to get it bent right.  I used a tube bender but the tiny tweaks you can do by hand - except for near the ends.  Near the ends, one technique there is to slip on a brake line fitting (like one you took off that line) and use a box end to gently coax the tube to the direction you want, moving the nut as you go.

It is steel, yeah 1/4 inch looks right.� Here is my original.  Looks like it was painted black.

Thanks for that...the inside picture is great...!

I'll use the same stuff that I used for the under hood fuel and vacuum lines.

Looks like a tricky little piece to make....I better get several feet..:)

Yes! Measure, add a few inches, and have enough for a couple of tries.

Well I finally did it......didn't want to rush into it....

I used copper because that was what I found, and bending it is so much easier.

Now that i have a pattern maybe someday I'll get some steel tubing or maybe brake line, but this looks good for now.

I used Brass Black on the copper the clips and the screws to give it that aged look....:)

Very nice!  As a vacuum line, that copper tube may last for quite a while...
