where can I go to learn about my jeep thru my vin number???

From what I understand; the 17 digit  VIN or vehicle Identification number did not exist before the early 1960's.
What Willys Overland used is called a serial plate number.

mines a 51 and them numbers don't jive at all..  hmmmmmm

Things happen over the years.  A previous register may have found a DMV issuing a VIN "because it needed one," so pictures will help identify what's going on.
