Title: Gas Cap ID

I have a none standard gas cap on my 52' M38, needs either the seal replacing or replacing out right, only catch I can't find one that fits. It's not the standard M38 cap, I think it might be from a CJ3 or later CJ can anyone help narrow down where the cap came from.

It's not vented, has two prongs and the filler neck is 2 5/8 wide with a 1 5/8 opening.

I've attached a few pictures if that helps.

Hi Mike,
At first view, it looks like you need the typical CJ2A/CJ3A vented cap. A picture of your gas tank would help.
 
Most of the vendors carry the 2A/3A reproduction gas caps.

Here a pick of the tank in, it looks like the previous owner made himself a larger tank and grafted on the filler neck. I had been looking for a new tank, but the M38 tanks are a little pricey up north $650 [ch128563]

I am on the third replacement cap for my 3A. Napa, Auto Zone, and now Walck's. The Napa one fit but leaked, the Auto Zone one wouldn't go on. Walck's fit but leaked when on an incline. I have gone to buying the replacement gaskets for a Jerry can on ebay (the filler spout ones). These fit and stop the leak but wear out over time.

I "re-gasketed" my cap with some Felpro Rubber-Fiber Sheet (Part No. 3157). Due to the thickness of the material  the cap went on real tight for the first few fill-ups but eventually settled in nicely.
