Title: Old C shackles
Post by: BruceG on January 14, 2016, 12:31:16 PM
Anyone have any tricks to remove the Bushings that thread Externally into the frame bracket and internally to the C shackle itself? I think  they all are RH thread threading into the frame bracket ( which needs to be unthreaded first to remove the shackle ) I believe the front drivers side and the rear passenger side LOWER Shackle is LH thread on some of the older models and I heard the LH ones have a grove cut at the hex head. Are the upper ones  all RH ????

I can never remember which ones are RH and which are LH. Often times once I figure it out I find that whatever's on the vehicle is wrong anyways.

They are a bear to remove even when you are turning them the correct direction. Use a 1/2 ratchet, the correct sized socket, and bring a lot of "oomph".

Tumbleweed's diagram is correct for the lower (spring eye) end. All the upper (frame bracket) ends should be right-hand. That is, if nobody has put it together wrong in the past.   BW

I had to cut one off, had nothing but trouble with them. I went to standard shackles. I would have to check my shop to see where I got them but I like em. They come with poly inserts, shackles and grade 8 hardware.
