Has anyone installed a Grant steering wheel in their Cj3a? I am wondering if it is pretty straight forward and what install kit to buy. I know the hardest part may be pulling the old wheel off...

Another way to ask this is: how different is the stock mount and spline on a CJ2a compared to a CJ3a? I know mount kits are available in the CJ2a model years but I've not seen any for the cj3a model years.

One of these is from a 2A and the other a 3A except for length they are pretty much the same as far as I know

As mentioned the CJ-2A and CJ-3A splines and threads are the same. Remember that if you go with a smaller diameter steering wheel it will be much more difficult to turn it. A dished steering wheel will also put the steering wheel a lot higher/closer to the driver, it may not be a comfortable position.

Bob, you answered my last concern.... whether the install kit brings the wheel closer.
My thought was to get a wheel around 16" instead of the stock 17". I also like a little more of a thicker "grip". I do not want it closer by any significant degree. Unfortunately, the kit alone appears that it will bring the wheel about an inch closer... not sure it is worth it.
... good news is my wheel came right off without the often discussed drama of elaborate pullers, etc.. I cleaned up the shaft and put it back together for now. On to the next project...
