Title: ORIGINAL ENGINE COLORS
Post by: dat on March 30, 2015, 04:13:50 PM
what colors did Willys use on their engines,  mine looks to be orange or reddish under all the dirt/ grease/ oil/ mud.  one of those things that doesn't really matter, but just curious, also the head is smooth/ more rounded on the top side, no ridges or straight castings or willys castings like I've seen on some

They were all black. I believe the color was called Americar Black.

The orange/red is the sealer that was under the black.

same engine,   the casting number on the block is  SD then blank, 804380 then blank then 13,  I haven't found any listing on that number on any year models,  what could it have come out of since it doesn't match the casting numbers for around then

dat,
That engine casting number would be found on late CJ3As.  Also in the M38.  And maybe early DJs ??

Your head sounds like it might be from an early Willys car or maybe an MB.  Can you post a photo of your engine area?
