Title: Intermediate gear ID?
Post by: 1955CJ-5 on December 03, 2014, 03:14:13 PM
This is a picture of the old gear out of my transfer case. It had three marks on it..18-5-7 which I believe is the Dana part number. 1150 is stamped in larger numbers..maybe the manufacture date?

And then there is this little mark..Is this a Dana mark or does it mean the gear was manufactured by someone else?

I'm just wondering if it had been replaced along the way......maybe it is the source of my T/C noise...

Looks like a Maltese Cross, maybe it was made in Malta.  ;D

Or maybe Manila....

Carl, if you don't recognize it, then it's an odd one for sure....

I'll probably replace it with a Crown gear, I've had no luck finding a NOS gear....

Randy,

I have a source for NOS and lots of parts - very reputable and I have delt with him for years on other projects.

Ron Holly 903-268-7260  Greenville, TX (Just about 45 minutes east of Dallas, TX)

I know he has a ton of NOS parts  - I think he can help you. He doesn't have a website!

Thanks Tumbleweed! Ron sounds like an excellent source for parts.

I'm still uncertain what I should do with this TC....the noise is taking the fun out of driving....but I'll figure something out...

No one recognizes that mark, and Walck's said that repros typically have no marks at all..no numbers, nothing.

I'll let you know what I learn...

I got a used gear from Herm. It's installed and seems to have eliminated 98% of the noise.

It does not have a Dana mark, but Herm said that it is an original take-off.....I've still not seen a circa 1951 d-18 gear with the Dana name or logo...
