Title: repro dash speedometer doesn't fit
Post by: NoCoWillys on February 25, 2014, 08:16:07 PM
Hey everyone, been a while since I've been on.  I've been busy reassembling everything and was installing wiring today.  After I finished up all the gauges I had the speedometer left.  I went to install it and it wouldn't fit!!  >:(  I have a repro dash I got from walcks as well as a new speedo from walcks as well.  Anyone else ran into this?  I've had to drill out the light switch hole bigger as well as drill out the ignition switch's hole.  Other than that the new dash seems to have been OK.

Yep, been there, done that. I took a file and made mine bigger. A common issue with the repro parts.

That's what I was afraid of.  How much did you have to take off?

I don't remember. Actually, I think I used a dremel because it was faster.

If I was a betting man I would bet that dash is old stock.. This is one of the well known past issues of the MD Juan products....and I have heard from 1/16 to 1/8 too small.

Fortunately it is too small a hole and you don't have to do any more than file the hole out.....too big a hole would be way worse..

I'd still send Dan or Rommel a note with some photos and details of where you bought it in case a bad one slipped thru.

I had the same issue.  I also just used a Dremel tool with a course sanding drum and opened mine up a bit.  The hole wasn't much too small........but enough no amount of forcing could get it to fit.

Thanks for the tips.  I'll get my dremel out and go to town.
