Title: Front Axle Swap Problems
Post by: Steve on December 28, 2013, 07:52:21 PM: Replaced my Bendex in the front with Spicer.ï¿½ When I install the hub and tighten everything down, the axle binds. I am at a loss of what to do. I am thinking that shims are in order, but I am going to need a bunch to prevent binding.ï¿½ Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.ï¿½

Post by: 1955CJ-5 on December 28, 2013, 09:50:32 PM: Do both sides bind, or just one side? With the axle out of the jeep,if you just slide the spindle over the axle, does the spindle spin freely? Does swapping the spindles left to right help?

I guess first I would carefully measure the old axle and the new, overall and also the inner and outer shafts.

Are the shouldered bushings fully seated in the spindles?

I was going to replace mine also so I'm very interested to see how you resolve this....

Post by: Steve on December 28, 2013, 11:01:24 PM: I think that I have resolved this issue. There were bushings on the inside of the axle shaft. I found a reference that suggested that I remove them to gain some space. Removal did the trick.
