I want to replace the modern alloy rims on my CJ3A with something that is more traditional and doesn't beat up the stock steering. I have a line on some 15" rims that should fit the bill. Are there any issues with using 15" rims rather than the 16" inch that were issued (I presume anyway) with the Jeep? Thanks.

I'm running 15s on my 49 and 53. The are no issues at all with them. Swapping back to 16's on the 49 though since I got a good deal on some tires for them.

Thanks. I am very glad to hear that, since finding 16" rims in the local area, at least ones that are reasonably priced, is impossible.

I too am using 15" rims. I like them....and as far as I can tell they are the rims that came with the jeep....
I think 15" rims were a factory option..

They are a factory option. My '53 has them. The style used on the 3As are harder to find than the ones on the CJ5s. The CJ5 15" wheels have bumps on them for hub caps. The 15" KH wheels for the 3As are smooth and a bit pointier than the 16" KH wheels.

Mine are 15 x 4.5, and with the 7:00 15 tires they just clear the front springs when the steering is at full lock...
I'm not sure if 16's would clear....of course you can get 6:50 x 16's and maybe that would do the trick...

Nate, early CJ5 15" wheels did not have the hubcap bumps, I have owned several, also had an FC150 w/15" that also had smooth rims, FWIW.

As others have mentioned, the 15" wheel is perfectly acceptable on a 3A.� In fact, I personally like them more than the common 16" wheels.� with a 7.00 tire, you have more rubber showing.� For lack of a better word, it looks a little more...'tough'.�
My 15" wheels are not Willys Jeep wheels.� They are marked 1955, have hub cap nubs, and may belong to a Scout or maybe a Jeepster.� I covet a set of Willys Jeep 15"ers.� Until a reasonably priced local set comes my way, I will have to muddle through.

Tim, Scouts came out in 1960, you have an interesting set of wheels, May I ask, is it smooth 15" that you are looking for? ;)

Yes I am Lee. I saw your collection over at the IFFC. I've gone to the "Lee Well" so often, I didn't want ask. This may be a stupid question, but do you have a set?

I think I can come up with a set, I need to look them over closely, can you wait till the FCT, If so I can bring them with, that is if I have them.

I guess I assumed a Scout. You've seen my wheels. What do you think they belong to?
Heck yah! I'm in no rush. These would simply take the place of my current set. Let me know.

To me they look like wagoner or later CJ5 wheels, but the 1955 does not jive, I had a 56 CJ5 and a 59 and bolth had the smooth 15's, maybe DJ, they had hubcaps I belive.

DJ3A has 4 lug wheels....DJ5 might be what you are thinking of....they finally went back to a 5 lug rim on the newer postal jeep. I have 5 luggers on my DJ3A in my avatar but someone redrilled the hubs.
