Title: Rear cap shims.
Post by: ZekeD on September 29, 2013, 10:49:07 PM
Ok, so now I know to call it the "rear Cap" rather than "The speedo housing"  (part no 7 )  But I am in trouble...How and why and to what extent do you "shim" the rear cap when you re-assemble the TC?   Is there an explanation, or do you shim until there is no grinding noise.   (my Uncle Ray's solution)

and while I am at it:  How do you extract the pivot pin (#28) from the shift levers?  Mine appears to have a cap on the inside....toward the bell housing. and part #29 is missing... Is it just a zerk fitting ???

Thanks Zeke

If you remove #30, #28 should push out towards the frame. #30 is a set screw with a square head and a hole drilled for safety wire.

The shims will be in there, and you can get more...setting the end play is a process, but may not be needed unless you rebuild the t/c...

Here is a link...

The procedure is way down the page in the assembly section

#29 is a zerk..
