Title: Sealing Seals?

Do you use any sealant when installing new seals?  I know the Moses Ludel book suggests using Super 300, but I couldn't find it anywhere...  I have a tube of Permatex #2, which I think might be similar (both being non-hardening "Form-A-Gasket" products).

Do you use a sealant when installing new seals?  If so, is the #2 acceptable for this use?

  That's what I use, and have for years - a little #2 on the outside, not only to help it seal, but to help it slide into place. And lubricate the rubber part with whatever lubricant the seal is there to hold.    BW
