Title: Gas Tank Repairs/Sealers? It's my original.

Has any one used any of the gas tank sealing/coating kits? I am considering the POR15 Deal. My tank looked good until I put the paint stripper to it......... :o :'(

I bought a tank sealer from NAPA it was kind of a milky substance, think I ended up using 2 cans, sorry I don't recall the name but it worked very well and I'm sure it to be much less than POR. Just my .02

I am actually cleaning this tank up tonight. Im taking A much needed computer break ;)

Hopefully I can put some photos up tonight.

I use this stuff called redkote. It works very well. I used it on my Titan's tank as well as on another engine's tank. Both have been bone dry since. This stuff remains flexible and can fill small holes. You can get it off ebay.

The P/O of my B Famall put redkote in the gas tank, it's been holding up for a few years now.

The inside looks pretty clean, however, I can.t see past the baffle.

I would replace. The new ones have that same logo so don't worry. My original to my 53 had some pin holes, but I did want to take the chance of it leaking. My tractor and engines are a different story though.

I looked at Walcks for one. Looks like around $200.00. I think I would have more than that trying to repair this one. And then I would have just that...A repaired one ;)

I used the Eastwood tank sealer kit.  It's pretty involved.  Once you start the process, you have to finish it in the time prescibed in the instructions.  It turns the inside of the tank into a porcelin shell.  Pretty neat stuff.  It will fill small pin holes like the ones shown in your photo. 

I feel your pain. New tanks aren't cheap. One other option might be to take it to a tank repair shop and get a quote.  It may be less expensive than the repair kits mentioned.  You never know until you ask.

I used JB weld for gas on the baffle rivets and pin holes and smoothed out and painted with semi gloss black enamel paint.  Inside it was OK because it had been used regularly by PO, still Holding after a year.  I was on a tight budget so a new one was out of the question.
