Title: Assembling mudguard
Post by: ironman on June 04, 2013, 03:14:03 PM: Hello everyone I follow with CJ3A restoration of slow but we went ahead.
We are to assemble the front fenders and these to be new when put in the body of the jeep has a little light.
I can put sealer and then paint or painted also thick rubber
Is that by putting sealer when stripping I will have to paint again.

You guys who think?

I believe that either one is okay.ï¿½ My 1949 had a cloth webbing originally between the mudguard (the fender) and the body.ï¿½ It can be purchased for that purpose.ï¿½ I didn't want anything that would hold moisture in the place.ï¿½ I thought about a rubber strip and didn't use it.ï¿½ I didn't like sealant either.ï¿½ I installed the mudguards with nothing between them and the body.ï¿½ I like it.ï¿½ Please do not use silicone rubber.ï¿½ Paint will not stick to it and it becomes dirty and messy.

Post by: macrisel on June 07, 2013, 01:14:46 PM: When I called and talked to Carl Walck about what to use between my fender and body, he recommended a product from 3M called "Strip Caulk". I used it and it has worked very well. Any auto body store should know what it is.

In the army there CJ3A? be positive if where I can find pictures.

Go to the, "Willys Photo and Story Threads..."ï¿½portion of this site and about 5 threads down you will see a thread called Arizona M38 Cheek it out. There you will see also a post by Bretto and on his posts he has a link entitled, "Photo Diary of My Rebuild." On that link you will see many pics. Maybe others will posts pics for you as well.
