Title: Horn button
Post by: garage gnome on May 01, 2013, 10:41:45 AM: Is anyone else having issues with their repop horn button rubber? Mine expanded so it doesn't stay on the nut as well and it is starting to crack. I swapped it out with a 2A style one since I don't trust the new rubber parts. Mine is 5 years old and I'm wondering if they have gotten better?

A guy said to lubricate it with silicone once a year to prevent it.

It should be valid as well for boot shifter.

I don't know.

Post by: garage gnome on May 01, 2013, 11:24:25 AM: It does. I use leather boots on mine. I'm going to stay with the 2a style because I don't have to worry and it isn't 100% original anyways.

Post by: Macgraham on May 01, 2013, 03:15:23 PM: THE 1950 3A my Dad bought new had the 2a style button. I always thought the 3A had that style of horn button. The one I have now had the soft rubber which wouldn't last a season here in AZ. Now it has the small hard button which I think is much better as far as something that will last. :) The 1950 3A came from the factory with the small button so why is it often referred to as a 2A?.

You can see the two type used on CJ3A. So 1951 used both model.

Mine as the earlier type and was made in late August 1950.

It is stiffer than the smooth type and my only concern would be that it would not flex enough to allow the circuit to be broken...my horn is not hooked up at the moment, along with everything else....or I'd try it...
