Title: Running new dual MC brake lines

Are there any preferred routes to run new brake lines on a '49?   I want to install one of Herms
Dual MCs and now that I am free to improvise, I was wondering if there are things to watch out for.

Also,  any advice on proportioning valves?   Sources, tips etc?

You don't need a proportioning valve. You can use the stock brake lines or just buy the kit from walcks.

Get the 90� banjo bolt kit from Herm too. It is a real tight fit and that makes life easy. I got my brake line kit from inline tube. I had to make no modifications at all. It is stainless too which is nice. I had to use a short little piece of regular tubing from the MC to the brake light switch. The rear I bent to fit. But the kit is an exact fit with the stock MC.
