Title: Rim Size Stock
Post by: maximushuntermus on March 22, 2013, 11:09:20 AM: What size rims are correct for the cj3a the 15" version or 16" ? Not sure this belongs in technical but appreciate your help? :)

15" was an option. usually to get larger tire to go in grass field...

5x5.5 bolts patern

Unless you have a DJ-3 which I think it will 4 bold patern but I'm not sure.

Post by: garage gnome on March 22, 2013, 03:06:56 PM: 16" x 4.5" wide wheel with 6.00x16 tires is stock, 15" x 4.5 wide wheels was optional with 7.50x15 tires. My '53 has the optional wheels.

Post by: maximushuntermus on March 22, 2013, 04:07:31 PM: Thanks everyone, my jeep has the 15"s but I'm kind of unsure about using them just because I think the 16's look better, not sure I could even find the 16" without an arm and leg. Are there better tire options one way or the other? I live in snow country, this won't be a daily driver by any means just running forrest service roads and was leaning towards some retro look snow tires as opposed to the military style tractor or directional tread tires. Anyone explored the tire availability to rim size, or have any thoughts or suggestions opinions its all good and I appreciate your help.

Post by: athawk11 on March 22, 2013, 08:36:02 PM: I'm with G-Gnome. ï¿½I don't have the right style rims, but 15" wheels allow you to have 7.00 or 7.50 tires without loss of power. ï¿½They also seem to fill out the wheel well better. ï¿½Take a look below. ï¿½Both Jeeps have stock suspensions...

Thanks for the photos, I tried to zoom to get the details on your tires Mr. Gnome but couldn't quite gather all the specifics would you mind posting here or PM me the Specs? This site is awesome, I'm happier than an Antelope with night vision goggles, ha ha, love that.

And like he said too, when I park my stock '49 (with 16" wheels) and the '53 next to each other, I love the looks of the '53 better. The tire to wheel ratio just looks more appealing with more side wall height and tire width.

I have the 750x15 super tractions on my '53 from Walcks. They handle great on the road and have siping in them for rainy conditions. I feel very safe with them. They grab good in snow too. The chrome doo-dads are aftermarket. ;)

Post by: garage gnome on March 22, 2013, 09:13:30 PM: Also, a wide tire is safer. There is more surface area contacting the road surface, so performance is improved. Also, those optional 15" wheels like I have are hard to find. The CJ5 ones Tim is using are pretty easy to come by.
