Title: Vacuum wiper installation question
Post by: jeffbo1 on October 16, 2012, 06:33:30 PM
I am installing 2 stock vacuum wiper motors on my windshield frame, and if mounted straight away the drive rods seem to protrude a bit too much on the outside of the windshield frame. Does anyone know how much drive rod is supposed to stick out in front of the glass. I would hate to have my wiper arms touching the hood should i fold the frame flat....many thanks

I'll take a shot at it. If your wiper arms hit the hood then make some spacers to move the wiper motors farther away from the windshield frame. If they are after market wiper motors the shafts may be to long.

yeah they are stock units, in nice shape....they have a cross arm support structure attached to each motor such that they mount with this structure and stand off normally displaying just enough rod length to mount the wiper arm. Without the supplemental structure such that the motor body is mounted directly to the windshield frame then the rod length seems a bit long....i'll probably mount them as they came and then no worries...i have a sneaking feeling that they cam from an M38, not a 3A

Be aware that the hood blocks for a CJ3A are significantly taller than for a CJ2A specifically for that reason. They should be 2" to 2.25" high.

My wiper motor needed about a 1/2 block between it and the frame to fit right. No idea if it was original however

Larry

Just made a new set of blocks for my 3A (originals were long gone) Made them 2" tall, and the wipers clear the hood when folded.

(driver side is vacuum, pass side is manual)
