Title: Aft T-90 Bearing Question.
Post by: Wylde on October 16, 2012, 02:32:48 PM: I have a T-90 and related Transfer Case for my CJ3A. Have assy and installed. ( HAVE NOT RUN YET )

I have a buddy who has a GPW, I was helping him put his Tranny and Trfr Case together, as we were putting the two halves together I noted he has a seal around a Washer just forward to Aft Bearing, as well as two Oil Slingers forward and Aft of the Aft bearing.

My question, with my rebuild kit, drawings, and maint manuals did not show these items on my build up.

DID I MISS SOMETHING? or does the CJ3A differ in which that these items were omitted and not needed?

any reply an insight would be great. Thank you.

Post by: Carls_jeep on October 16, 2012, 03:55:09 PM: My parts book shows an oil slinger on the transfer case side of the bearing, no seal. The top shifter has no slinger. Those parts you mention must be only for the GPW transmission.

Post by: Carls_jeep on October 16, 2012, 06:56:38 PM: I don't have a photo. The slinger was shown on the side shift Column shifter on early CJ2A's. The floor shifter didn't have a slinger. I don't think the slinger is necessary in either tranny. There isn't a seal between the tranny and transfer cases.

I don't really know why they would have put a slinger there on any of the tranny/transfer cases.

Ok So no oil Seal, No Oil Slingers on rear bearings.

So there is no problem with transmission oil flowing into the Transfer case, and vise Versa?

The T90 was built to allow a slow fluid transfer between the TC and the transmission. ï¿½ ï¿½Below is a diagram showing this relationship. ï¿½There have been a couple really good write ups on how and why is, but I can't find them at the moment.
