Title: engine oil priming update
Post by: Macgraham on May 05, 2012, 07:08:41 PM: I tried the grease gun idea to prime my 134 oil system and it really worked well. First thing it told me was that I forgot to put the plug in the oil filter can. Took longer to clean the gun than to put the 4 quarts in. It also told me that I had a leak in the oil pan. One of the spot welds had cracked where the guard was spotted on. Fortunately I had another pan that is good so no better time to do it than now. When I dropped the old pan you could see that the bearings had lots of oil from the grease gun pump, lots o[IMG]http://i106f oil dripping down.<a href="http://

Mac sent the photos of his grease gun application for priming his engine to me, as well. I posted them here without his permission. Hope we're still friends.

I had to drop the pan because of a spotweld leak right after I finished priming and there was oil dripping down from all the lower bearings. It also filled the oil filter can. It would probably work the way you describe as well if you can close up the system.
