That certainly looks to be a "might work and might not work" method. Have you (or anyone you know) ever put it to the test?

If the nut was left on the axle it would work just fine. Without the nut as shown in the drawing it may go a foot or two when it comes off. The whole thing weighs so much it can't go very far.
As they say, you do what you gotta do.

Seems like I'd have to have more hands than I have just to get it set up. I'm guessing patients is the key ingredient.

Just so we're clear guys, I'm not recommending this method. I just posted it as an interesting kink from the early days.

BTW, the rim in the drawing is a spoked rim.
