Title: E Brake Drum

Had a lot of trouble breaking the nut loose that holds the e-brake drum on, but it's off and the question now is: do I need a puller to get the drum off?  It seems loose but doesn't seem to want to come off.  Don't want to pry and break something so I thought I'd ask first and break later.

That drum is pretty tough.  You won't break it if you have to get a little rough.  With the nut and the drive shaft flange removed, the drum will slide off.  Much like the other drums, the shoes may be holding you on.  If you haven't, disconnect the hand brake cable.  This may free you up a bit.

Hey Tomj, make sure you put sealer on the splines when you reinstall the flange, the oil level is higher than the splines when full and will leak badly if you don't.

I use plumber's pipe dope. I'm sure others have their own favorite.

I use Permatex Gasket and Thread Sealer #2.  Seals, stays pliable, can be easily disasembled if need be. So the instructions say.  So far, no leaks....so far.  Probably just overpriced black pipe dope.

Yep , I fell for the old leaking seal trick, even put a speedi sleeve on the flange, turned out...no sealant on spline....oil creep along spline....me shout at jeep.

I sure wish you guys woulda told me this three weeks ago...just put new seals and gaskets in with u joints.... :'(..oh well my wife gave up on me when I dragged this thing home..
