Thoughts on Gasket vs. Silicone Gasket Maker for the timing chain cover?
(GPW chain drive motor with Thrust Stud on inside of cover)
I have read some posts where original thickness of the gasket is critical to good function. How about the timing chain cover?

use gaskets you will not have a leak and have to do it over soon

Use a gasket and a thin film of RTV on both sides of the gasket.

I always thought the general rule of thumb was to use RTV only on one side of a gasket, preferably on the part that comes off (cover), as it makes it possible to remove the cover later on and is easier to clean up. If you put RTV on both sides, you are essentially "gluing" them together, which makes removal all that much harder.
