After some investigation I have determined that my 49 CJ3A has a 1952 M38 windshield. I thought that things just didn't look right when I looked at other members photos. I was going to put a vent in the windshield where the current cover is in place by 2 straps, but now I am not sure this would work since it is an M38. Also I have 4 other large holes that obviously are there for a reason. 2 holes in each of the windshield panels (left and right side next to where the vent would go). Will a vent fit? Then I would also have to weld up the other holes. Wish I could post a picture but I am not sure how to do this.

Are the holes to the left and right of the vent about the size of bolt holes or larger ? If they are bolt hole size, my guess is it was for the rifle holder that was typically mounted on M-38's.

They are bolt holes and typical of the pictures I have seen on M38 Jeeps. Since I am in the Ft Worth area I checked with 820 Jeeps. They have a CJ3A windshield and said he is interested in the M38. Now that I know that the windshield is not the original I have no sentimental attachment to it. Sounds crazy but I hate to replace any original parts that came on the Jeep with replacements unless I have to. I have seen a lot of CJ3A's that have what appears to be M38 windshields. Gets pretty confusing when you try and bring one back to original. George.....
