Title: Right Hand seat frame
Post by: bayo500 on January 16, 2011, 08:38:01 PM
Hi, my right hand seat frame (the flip up one over the tool box) has 4 footman loops riveted on the underside, i think the frame is out of an earlier model, any idea what would have been stored underneath and held in place with two straps.
I'm in the process of making it fit as i'd had Buckley's chance of finding an original here in Queensland.

Military jeeps had footman loops beneath the passenger seat to store the summer top.

I didn't think military jeeps had summer tops, just winter tops with the side curtains removed. I thought the whole "summer top" thing was strictly a civvy thing.  I know the jeeps we used when I was in only came with one top; the one with all the twist fasteners for the side curtains.

Canvas storage, that makes sense, thanks.

This is a summer top and the bottom pic shows it stored under the passenger seat. Click on the link for more info.

Well, looks like I learned yet another thing ! :)

I guess since I was in the Marines and we get the cast-away equipment of the other branches  :-[, we never had a summer top (if any, actually) in our Jeeps.

When I was issued my first truck (the famous "deuce and a half"), the year on the dash data plate was 1964.  I was born in 1961.  I said, "This truck was made 3 years after I was BORN ?  Why don't we have new equipment ??"  The Marine standing next to me goes, "Still runs, doesn't it ?  Shut up."

 :)
