the screen in my oil pickup is all torn up.
screen also has a hole, with a grommet around it, about the size of a quarter.
it appears to be by design... doesn't make sense.
why would you put a hole in a filtering screen?
asked Mike over at Kaiser Willys... he was at a loss.
any insight?
where might i find a replacement screen?
metal window screen work?
thanks,
frank

Are you missing the cover that goes over the screen? Normally the grommet (hole) is touching the cover and thereby plugging it so the oil has to pass through the screen. If the screen becomes clogged the suction will pull it up and allow oil to bypass the clogged screen and go through the grommet. It is probably best to replace the entire unit since it is not as simple as it seems.

thanks Bob W.
your explanation of operational theory makes perfect sense.
condition of screen just didn't lend itself to coming to that conclusion.
have checked several vendors to no avail.
anybody have a line a new oil pickup?
thanks,
frank
