Title: Choke on the WO carb
Post by: Carls_jeep on December 14, 2010, 05:09:46 PM
I have an issue with the choke on the WO carbs. In my thread about the throttle shaft replacement I made comments about it. The issue is when you pull the choke out the leverage system does not increase the rpm of the engine like other choke systems do. I tried several attempts to make it open the throttle but none worked. I am considering redesigning the choke linkage so it will open the throttle as the choke is closed.

Has anyone else noticed this problem? Is this only happening on the two WO carbs that I have? I really doubt that.

I bump up the RPMs a little with the hand throttle while warming up. I've never owned another piece of equipment that needed as little choke to run cold as my L134. I wonder how the Solex carbs run cold?

I was going to say the same thing; pull the throttle out a wee bit. I've always done it that way with all my Willys, even my M38A1. Works like a charm.

Hmm, that may be why the choke doesn't open the throttle. The problem is I don't have a manual throttle cable on my Jeep. Maybe I need to put one on it. I'll think about that a while.

BTW, I completed the carb and the final photos are in the thread about a new throttle shaft if anyone is interested. I made a new choke shaft too.

My choke used to increase the rpm's when fully pulled out. However, now it does not seem to work anymore.  Probably something that I could adjust and it would work again.  However, I usually just use the hand throttle a tad bit like others but I usually do not even need that.

My choke will open the throttle when the choke it about 3/4 open by then the engine is about to die and running rough. The thing is, there is no connection on either carb for a throttle cable. I am guessing it has been removed from both carbs.
