Title: Earth straps on the tub
Post by: bayo500 on November 25, 2010, 04:30:52 AM
Three months in on rebuild, I've noticed I have no earth straps from the tub to the frame.  How many should there be ? Should there be one in the (6v) generator area ?  I started it for the first time this evening since I put the tub back on to check for water leaks and then with the lights off to check for stray sparks and noticed a beaut light show running up and down the generator bracket under the water pump. I'm thinking the earth straps might solve this, any clues ?
( It started easy and runs nice, not bad after 3 months - nice sound and no computers to worry about)

There are no grounding straps on a CJ-3A body tub. There is one located between the engine and the frame at the right front motor mount. One of the three wires between the generator and regulator is a ground.

Thanks Bob, i removed the earth wire and gave it a good clean with emery tape and the light show has gone, just goes to show how important clean terminals are in a rebuild.
