I posted in another thread about my concerns about rust in the cylinder head. ï¿½I haven't pulled the head yet, I'm waiting on a new head gasket.

This morning I decided I wanted to do a simple check on the passages. I decided since I have the elbow off, I can pour some anit-freeze into the head and see if it comes out the drain petcock. ï¿½I don't have the radiator installed yet. ï¿½The water pump outlet is "closed off" with some duct tape and tie wraps, I put it there to prevent anything from getting into the pump, it's a cheap "plug" at best.

I bought some cheapie pre-mix for my test, good stuff will go in when complete.

I pour it in, it gurgles away, the entire container goes in. ï¿½I open the drain petcock, coolant flows out. ï¿½Now I know that only proves that basically ONE passage is open, others could be clogged, but it gave me a good feeling.

Suddenly I hear something like water quickly dripping onto metal. ï¿½Apparently, duct tape and tie wraps make a poor plug, as anti-freeze is making it's way out of the water pump outlet onto the large drain pan I had (thankfully) underneath. ï¿½Why did I think (or NOT think) that that plug would hold ? ï¿½No amswer.....

Now here is where the "genius" part kicks in. ï¿½I already have a brand new upper and lower radiator hose, I figure I'll just pop the upper hose on the pump, as the hose is angled higher than the head. ï¿½Now, do I just slide it over the existing tape/wrap combo ? ï¿½No Genius thinks to REMOVE the plug and slide the hose on.

Coolant flows REALLY fast..... ::)

Got the hose on, no more drips..... Nice mess to clean up.... :-/
