Title: Access Panels in Floor - similar to M38
Post by: JeepFever on November 12, 2014, 02:17:51 PM: The floor in my '3A is gone, literally. . . right now it is just a rusty metal dome over the tranny/tcase, the rest of the floor is air.

Since I am building from scratch anyway, I like the idea of making a larger access hole, for future maintenance etc.

Any thoughts?

I tried some searching to see what anyone else has has done. No luck so far. Also tried to find some good photos of M38 floor.

I would like this to be somewhat stock-looking, but with the added functionality.

Post by: Ryan_M on November 12, 2014, 02:56:42 PM: If you're going for a true stock 3A you wouldn't want those panels - although I wonder if one of those 1 piece rubber floor mats would mostly conceal the fraud.

If you're leaning more towards functionality, I'd install them in a heartbeat.

I have a bare M38 tub and all the panels in my garage right now. I'd be glad to send/post pics and measurements if it would help.

This build will not be true stock, but I would like any mods to be mostly stock-looking. I will be using floor mats (to hide my welding seams, ;D)

Some photos and measurments would be great if you get a chance.

It's easy enough to find these 3 panels used or even NOS. They are the same on an M-38A1 too.

Yeah Bob, that looks real good on a 3B tub.
The same removable floor pans were also used on all pre 1972 CJ-5,6.

I see that Walcks has a set of floor coverplates for $120.ï¿½ ï¿½ Anybody try these?

Post by: Ryan_289 on March 05, 2015, 05:04:20 PM: If someone wanted to do this to say a reproduction tub would all you need to do is trace the panels out and cut? I had an M38 years ago but cant remember is there were flanges along the edges for strength?
