Title: Data Plate Repair
Post by: athawk11 on January 12, 2012, 09:32:26 PM: Just refurbished and installed my old data plate. ï¿½I think it turned out pretty nice.

I scrubed it then lightly sanded the crud and rust off with 600 wet sand paper. I taped off the edges and the serial number box.
I spray painted the rest in black and let it dry completely.

I then use 1500 wet sand paper and a small block, working in small sections and slowly and gently sanded the black paint off the raised lettering. ï¿½It took about an hour worth of sanding. ï¿½

Post by: Kendog on January 14, 2012, 07:57:15 AM: Nice job. I did the same to mine using a black Sharpie marker. It dries faster than paint for touch ups and looks great now. It allowed for a perfect serial number photo I needed for vehicle registration transfer.

I took a small dab of car polish and gave it the once over. Shiny!
