Title: Dana 25 Spindle Bushing Clearance
Post by: Barry L on September 05, 2018, 07:14:42 PM
Am rebuilding the front axle on my -3A.  What should the clearance be between the flange bushing in the spindle and the axle, I am not finding it in the rebuild manual or on this forum?  Am trying to determine if mine need replacing.

Did you get this figured out? Basically those clearances aren't critical. The axle shafts in reality bump on the snap ring and the bushing to control end play. Many times the axle snap ring is left off on the Dana Spicer style u-joint shafts. In this case the axle shaft simply bumps inside the diff at the cross shaft. This is the way many axles operate. As long as the axle shafts go in and all assembles, you are good. There should be a small amount of "play" in and out on the axle shaft. All it needs is "some". Hope that helps.

Bob -

Thanks... ended up purchasing a new set, and comparing to the existing... Old ones were with in 0.010" so let them be.
