Title: Emergency brake cleaning
Post by: PatrickD on April 01, 2019, 04:39:19 PM
Dear All,
I need to change the oil seal of the outgoing shaft on transfer box, as it's leaking into the emergency brake drum.
I have remove the 4 nuts but the rear shaft refuses to come off the drum's bolts. As I do not want to be hard on it, any recommendation to remove it. There's no rust at all.
Thanks in advance for your advise.
Patrick

Hi Patrick,
If you have removed the 4 bolts, give the drive shaft a few good hits with a dead-blow-hammer.  It will pop right off.  Don't be shy.  It can take this kind of abuse.

You might need a puller to get the companion flange to release from the drum/transfer case.
