Title: identifying a front axle
Post by: corpsman on February 18, 2015, 09:51:36 PM
I'm sure my 1950 cj-3a has a dana 25 front axle, but does anyone know a quick, at a glance way to identify it?

The only 2 front axles that look remotely similar are the Dana model 25 and model 27.
They both are narrow track axles with the closed knuckle design.
The easiest way to differentiate is via the axle vent.
The Dana 25 always has the axle vent on the front differential cover.
The Dana 27 always has the axle vent on top of the carrier housing.
