Title: Starter Mod question

Is anyone familiar with the starter mod that is in the picture? Have recently purchase the CJ3A and I am having starting issues and may need information on the solenoid that is mounted on the starter.

I haven't seen this particular starter solenoid before, but solenoids are fairly universal.  Nearly any 12v solenoid off the shelf at NAPA can be used for your application.

Can you describe the starting issues?

I am not getting any current to the solenoid. The green wire in the picture runs from the ignition switch to the solenoid. I disconnected the green wire from the solenoid and tested for current when turning the ignition switch and it shows current, but when I attach it to the solenoid it shows not current when I turn the ignition switch. Acting like the solenoid is grounding out. Read on another forum this afternoon and someone was having the same issue with theirs and it turned out to be carbon build up on the ground from the solenoid. Will have to check that out

Mudviper ..... I can't tell from the picture where the other solenoid wire goes.  The green wire gets voltage from the starter connector on the ignition key, the other connection should probably go to ground.

Is the solenoid snapping?

You kind of lost me, what other wire?..Think you might be talking about the red wire? That is not related to the solenoid, it is just in the picture. It is connected to some thing different. The start and solenoid was working fine until the other day when I went to try and start the Jeep.

Well got the starter working. Don't ask me how I didn't because I am not sure myself. Not making much sense to me...lol

Mudviper .... A solenoid takes two connectors, a positive and an negative.  Many times the negative is grounded to the frame, sometimes it is grounded through the winding of the starter and sometimes it has its own terminal. 

If you had power to the positive terminal and it did not snap, you probably had a ground issue. 

Working is good.
