Post by: stony on March 02, 2019, 10:56:25 AM
Is this license plate holder somethinng the factory would have installed,or the dealer? Do you think it is original to the Jeep?

That looks just like the one that is on my jeep....whether it's dealer or factory I don't know.

Mine had been bent 90 and fastened to the top of the frame rail, but the holes in the bumper are there.....

Terry,
I don't have a 3A Parts Manual (PM) but my 3B PM has a separate group,

GROUP 28-03 -- LICENSE TAG BRACKETS
640745     Bracket, license tag, assembly     1
and hex bolts, lockwashers and nuts 5/16"-24 x 7/8"     2/ea

-to attach to the front bumper.

I dug around using the part number on the 2A Parts Database and found they have 2 locations for the same bracket:

32-2 and 15-10.  Here:

http://www.cj-2a.com/parts_list/index.php?load=detail&4392

I can't explain why the listing under electrical (GROUP 15-10) but the other makes sense.

That makes it sound like to me at a minimum an accessory.  I can't say that all jeeps came with them out of the factory or were added after the dealer got them.

Cool, yeah it looks the same, just turned around.  Is it listed in the parts catalog?  I dont have mine with me.

That's similar to the bracket on my 2a.

Sure thing, once you figure it out, it’s not too bad.
