Here's a few pics from Saturday's ride. Most are of the tailgate of a CJ5 as that's what I spent a lot of the day staring at.
The area we rode is just north of Old Town, ME on a stretch called the "Stud Mill Rd". This is an impeccably maintained private gravel road owned by the timber companies. It stretches roughly 70 miles from Old Town to Princeton, ME, which is just a stones throw from the Canadian border. The Stud Mill itself can be cruised at speeds of 50+mph in your car or truck with ease. The fun parts are the endless goat paths off the Stud Mill. I think you could spend a couple weeks back there and not have to back track. There are all sorts of lakes and ponds where you can camp or just stop for lunch or enjoy the scenery. Good stuff. We did about 50 miles off pavement plus another 50 to and from this area. Wife, dog, cooler, and 100 Jeep miles. It was a great day.

Looks like pretty country.
I might have thought twice before crossing that bridge. :-/
-
Is that also known as the Golden Road?
What a beautiful ride! I can get my wife on short trips but my Jack Russell (Mad Max) wants nothing to do with a jeep ride.
-
Tim - I am very glad I was not the first one over that bridge. It looked so bad I actually accelerated heavily once I was on it in hopes of being able launch across if it collapsed.
Bruce - Not the Golden Road but similar in appearance. The Golden Road is even more fun to explore :-)
And oh yeah - Neither of my Jack Russell's enjoyed Jeep rides in the beginning. It took several slow rides around yard to get them acclimated. Now I can't keep them out of it!
