I need somebody to talk me out of this (besides my wife who will have a cow when I tell her).
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/4459345381.html
It's only 25 miles from my house. I can drive it home - maybe.
Going to look at it tonight unless my wife commits murder first.
It's what I've been lookikng for since my first parade with my Dad four and a half years ago.
https://jeeps-folbots-etc.epizy.com/jeep/parades/parades.html
I want to make a pseudo Army jeep. Not crazy, just paint it OD and put some stencils on it. Those who know WWII Jeeps will know it's not authentic. For those who don't it won't matter.
Just for parades - the price is right.
Help.
Stop me.
:o :P

You'd be doing yourself a disservice not to buy it. Go get it!!
Jeep aside, the ad is pretty hilarious on its own.
-
I really enjoy the ad. Very funny!
Now im returning you your own sentences ;"If you don't grab it while you can, you'll regret it later."
;D
P.S. I think we should consider to ban you for a couple of day from the forum for having saying this to an addict! Remember, my name is Pascal and im jeepaholic!
-
I think this is a done deal....be sure to post pictures when you get it home..a video of the drive would be really neat...!
-
Johnrb3b, Hurry and get it. Its only 200 miles from me and about 20 or so from my Daughters place so I do not get it. My shed is full and to many projects now (not really). The message was neat I am still chuckling. Remember he who passes with the most Willys win's. :)
-
I'll race yah!!!
-
It looks like somebody got it. Hope somebody from the forum. Its deleted from Craiglist.
-
Yeah, I was looking to see it and the page was gone. I hope Johnnie got it.
-
Funniest Ad I have ever seen!!!
-
John, was it you? Hope so.

Yeeeeesssss!
It was meeeeeeeeeeee.
My buddy John (the other John) and I went to look at it Friday evening.
The tub is in slightly better condition than my 3B.
The engine started at the first turn of the starter.
Farm counter weight, complete rear PTO, couple little boxes of parts, newly reupholstered front seats, no cracks in steering wheel, very little slop in the steering, tailgate less dented than my 3B
AND
an MB/GPW rear seat with (possibly) original OD canvas upholstery.
It also has a tow bar attached which I will use to pull it home. Why?
When we started it up, the carb started to dribble gas all over. We shut it off quickly. The guy was really embarassed. We told him no problem. He had told me it last was driven in Sept last year. I'm guessing the ethanol in the gas did for the seals in the carb. Pretty easy fix.
Given its condition and the goodies on it, we figured it was worth $3,500 or more so I didn't argue the price.
The money I used to buy it was what I'd been slowly saving up for a couple years to re-gear and put new tires on the JK. That can wait another year or so . . . I hope.
I'm going to try to have it ready for our Memorial Day parade.
AND
My wife came on board with the idea.
Here's what convinced her.
It's going to be a parade vehicle for my Dad. I'll do as many parades as I can while he's still alive and able.
He finally outgrew his Army uniform a couple years ago. He's 93 now and his waistline has finally exceeded the coat's buttons.
I'm going to an Army surplus store near me to see if we can get a reasonable facsimile of his original. We'll move his medals and patches to it.
Wish me luck.
Pictures to come.
:) :D :) :D :) :D

Oh, and part of the whole scenario was that John (the other John) was along for two reasons.
Help me look it over and evaluate
AND
TALK ME OUT OF IT
He didn't.
In fact, he told me that if I didn't buy it, I was nuts.
"You have to do this. It's in too good condition to pass up."
So, Pascal, you sending my words back to me were prophetic. If I didn't do this, I would regret it.
To all
Thank you for your support.
-
Congrats John! Two thumbs up ! :)
I hope you will enjoy it a couple of years with your dad.
-
Good for you John. I am glad you got it. Looking foward to the pictures.
-
Congratulations John!!

Done deal.
It's home (well at John's (the other John) house).
We're going to try to get it painted military by Monday for the parade.
Wish us luck.
Started a thread about it in Your Non-3A Jeep Project.

Part of the deal with getting this thing ready was also getting a "new" uniform for my Dad.
He turns 93 next month and he can no longer button his Army dress jacket. He's wearing it in the pics of our two previous parades in 2009 and 2010.
Since then he's added a little girth. The food at his retirement village it waaay too good.
So
We went to two Army surplus stores yesterday. Could not find a Forest Green officer's dress jacket. Actually we found two - in the same size as Dad's - 38R. Not any help as he already has one of those. :)
At the first store we found a post WWII jacket in khaki that looked pretty close to his but he wasn't comfortable with it as it wasn't the real thing for him. He said he'd wear it if we couldn't find anything closer. But he didn't seem happy about it.
At the second store we found another duplicate of his - same size. No good. But the guy came up with a khaki Eisenhower jacket in 42R that fit perfectly. Dad was happy with that as an Ike jacket was part of his official uniforms back then. He wore his out using it after the war. We got pants to match and we're good to go. I'm moving his insignia and he'll be official.
Both are in mint condition.
And the best part, the guy is very supportive of vets and when he met Dad and heard his story, he gave us the stuff at way cheaper than he had it tagged. He had a price tag of $125 on the coat alone but ended up giving us the coat, pants and a shirt for $100. Seriously very fair price.
Pictures to come.

How did it go, John? Did you get some pics?
congrats

Everything came together.
Jeep was ready, Dad was ready, perfect weather.
We had a seriously good time.
scroll down for this year's parade

And here are details on the 2A

My wife and sisters are all really supportive of this crazy scheme. I'll be doing parades with Dad until he's no longer able. The way he's going, that'll be a few more years yet. He's still going strong.
