Title: NOS - My favorite three letter word
Post by: Ryan_M on July 12, 2014, 05:16:10 PM
I had the opportunity to rummage through an old barn this week and came home with a few treasures.

I found a bunch of voltage regulators and a couple very interesting 6V tachometers. I thought one might look cool in the 3A but I noticed they max out at 2000 rpm. Any idea what they might have been designed for?

There's also an NOS M38 radiator guard complete with paper tag still intact. Neat stuff.

If anyone can ID what these things go to let me know. I've tried searching for the various part numbers online and can't find much. More trinkets to sit on the shelves at home.....

Very nice!
The only thing I can think of for that low of rpm's might be an old diesel tractor or generator....

I see on the directions for one of those tachs it goes up to 3500 rpm.  Do you have one of those perchance?  If I still had my Farmall Cub I might have been able to put one those 2000 rpm ones to good use.  Nice haul.

Interesting hall. Are you interested in parting with some of that gold? What is hidden behind the Cosmo and boxes?

It's an interesting assortment of stuff - some junk, some good. It was a bit overwhelming pawing through all the rooms and storage bins full of parts and I was just grabbing what I thought may be useful (or salable) at some point.

My field of knowledge is very limited - pretty much 2A/3A/M38 gear - and even that's shaky. I'm sure I passed over some great parts for other vehicles as I had no idea what I was looking at.

Here's a few more pics:

I thought initially these were M38 clusters but there's an extra pressure guage. I think many of the guages themselves would be correct for an M38?

A couple heads. Any idea what the red one is?

An assortment of shift towers:

Air cleaners. Original decal in excellent shape:

Cases for T-84J and T-90:

I guess this is the start of my Willys Pick-up project. I piece down, a few thousand more to go:

Make that two down. I grabbed a mirror too:

Wiper motors. There's a couple brand new IH Scout wiper motors including an unopened box:

A couple 24V starters and an MB (I think?) generator:

Harrison heater cores:

These are my favorite. Dana 25 Differential Assemblies. Dated Sept 1951. Still sealed in their boxes (I opened one):

This was unopened and unmarked so I had to look. It's another differential. Dana 44 maybe?

And if anyone can help ID this it would be a huge help. I have a pile of them but none are marked. Any ideas??

I'll tell ya, seems like everyone is finding some great stuff. A new guy just posted that he is hoping to acquire 20 new Willys Jeeps.

Lots of parts...lots of Jeeps...some free M-38s...

I really do try to treat karma with respect, but this kind of thing never happens to me.

Ryan_M, Nice fine. Hard to believe that there is still NOS stuff packed away out there. Dana 25 Differential Assemblies would they be for a M38 5:38.

Yes M38 5:38 differentials.

Any idea what that 14.25" shaft is?

Ryan that 14.25" looks a lot like the axle shaft to a 60's era Intl Scout 4x4. They were a real weak spot and snapped on a regular basis when plowing snow.
As Tim stated, you have some karma issues.
Just curious, any 5 numbers floating around in your head that you can't seem to shake?

I find it interesting that the gauge cluster has a voltmeter rather than an ammeter.  I can't see through the dust if it's 12 or 24 volt.

How about a Rzeppa right inner front axle shaft?

Boy that looks pretty close doesn't it? Any idea what specific axle it fits? Do you need one? How about a dozen of them? ;D

Probably fits the Dana 25 front axle. I think the Rzeppa joints are the best out of all the choices.

Ryan, you might give Peter DeBella a call if you want to unload some of the NOS stuff.  I have had really good luck buying quality NOS from him so he might be interested in buying it..

I'll probably just put them on ebay and sell 'em off one at a time over the next 40 years or so.

I doesn't say on the gauge itself but I'm pretty sure these are all 24V.

Also look at QTM Jeep Parts store. They look like Passenger side Rezepa shaft, A-1727. I would say thats what they are.
