Today I found an original hand operated passenger wiper for the '49. Now I just need to find a wiper blade for it.

I bought my 49 CJ-3A from the son of the original owner. He told me it had never been modified, and I believe it. It hadn't even had a hole drilled in the dash for a switch or anything. It came with the original hand-operated passenger windshield wiper. The rubber blade had disintegrated long before. I purchased a worthless repro blade from a Jeep supplier, don't remember which one. It didn't last long. I wish I would have kept the steel portion of the wiper and made my own retrofit rubber wiper from the insert of a new blade from an auto parts store. Regretfully, now I have the poor quality steel portion instead of the original. I will still cut my own wiper from a new wiper blade and install it. If you ever locate a good quality repro please let me know. I would purchase one. Where I live in the desert southwest it seldom rains. On the rare occasion that it does, I don't drive my Jeep. The wiper is just for looks (and safety inspection).

Thanks, I'll keep the original around. I bought a repro from Walcks. I'll see how it is.

I got the repro in from Walcks. I was happy to see "MADE IN USA" stamped on it. I'll try it out and see.
