What would be the value of a 1967 CJ-5 with a perkins diesel 4 cyl? 500$?
I will add a photos later. Seller said that it was running fine but the fuel tank was leaking so he can't show it running. Fuel tank is removed.
Does the motor will be better then my hurricane in my DJ-6?
-
Serial number start with 8310
The steering column does'nt look original.
It has three speed by the shifting pattern.

Real nice. I'm not sure about the diesel compared to the Hurricane. If it were me, the cost of diesel fuel may be a consideration.

I think the price depends on whether the Perkins is any good and therefore it is dependent on whether it runs. The Perkins is definitely more durable than the F head but is also way more expensive to rebuild. Power wise, not much of a difference.
The tub appears to be cobbled up rather well with the hard top welded to the windshield frame and perhaps the tub also. Homebrew? If you just want to run it as is, that may not be a problem but if someplace down the road the plans include a restoration, it is going to be a lot of extra work and probably a new windshield frame. Rust? From the photos, it doesn't look too bad but you should check it closely. If the floors and hat channels are still good, the rest is likely ok. They typically rust in all the same places as the flatties: sills, floors, rear body mounts, and the sandwiched rear cross member.
Price? Without actually seeing it run, I definitely wouldn't go over $1000. If it is rusted out and doesn't run, your $500 may be on the mark. If it does run and is largely rust free, maybe $2500. As noted, it would still require a lot of work for a restoration.

The seller is asking 500$!!!
It is just not a good timing for me to buy it now. I would be in a better position to buy it in a month. I don't have a place to put it. I'm going to get my CJ-6 parts jeep in two weeks. The garage will be full.
If I can buy it, my plan will be to "transplant" the perkins engine into my DJ-6. I will scrap the left-over.
I can't title it and the seller does'nt have proper files.
-
One of the jeep sites had a thread where a fellow was rebuilding/refurbishing a Perkins...darned if I can remember where ....but if I do I'll post it....
I did find that they are 58 HP at 2400 RPM...no mention of the torque....
Found it...right under my nose!!

If you don't grab it while you can, you'll regret it later.
Buy it, yank the engine and any good parts and haul the carcas to the scrap yard. It's a CJ-5, they're a dime a dozen. No need to preserve the hulk.
You could probably strip it and dispose of it before your other parts Jeep shows up.
-
I told the seller that I will pay and get it on june 21 if it is not sold already and he agreed.
Let's see
-
I'm working for a company named Metso based in Finland. The original name of the company was Valmet. :-?
I just found this;
In Finland, starting in the late-1970s, Wagoneers were usually sold with a Valmet 411 Diesel engine
http://wikicars.org/en/Jeep_Wagoneer
:o :o :o
Is it a coincidence? No! It's destiny! I need to get this diesel engine.... ;D ;D
-
I sended him a deposit of 250$. He will keep it for me until june unless someone offer him more.
-
Is it a coincidence? No! It's destiny! I need to get this diesel engine.... ;D ;D
Agreed.
It's your destiny.
The diesel will love you and serve you well.
;D
-
Metso is a pretty amazing company, so was Valmet. Valmet made a rifle that allowed you to remove the barrel and change calibers with a system similar to today's popular over under shotguns. Always wished I had bought one...
-
I may get it sooner then I though. I'm looking to go get it between May 26 - May 30.
The seller posted it on facebook and too much people are interested by it so
I called today and told him that I will be able to grab it in two weeks.
My finger's are crossed.
-
Here is Matter cousin aka my CJ6 1966 donor parts for my DJ6. He is waiting outside the garage for now. Will wait a couple of days before dismantle it, kids have fun with it.
-
The diesel jeep will arrive in two week hopefully !
-
Woohoo.
You won't regret it.
Somebody famous said that recently.
;D
-
It is mine!
More details photos to come.
Note; the uhaul trailer come from Arkansas!
-
There's always so much excitement in those "Day 1" pics. Good stuff! Congrats!!
-
That is just great! That top is really funky....
I really like getting them home, cleaning a little, and maybe finding treasures in the tool box, under the seat, or between the fuel tank and the sides....
I found a dead mouse and a .22 shell in mine :D
-
The PO was kind enough to gave me all related book with the jeep!
-
Wow. Those manuals are a gold mine.
-
Cool Jeep! Perkins CJ-5 serial number 8310 10837 was at the Willys Picnic on Sunday.

-
Wow! Do you have more pictures about it? Like motor or dashboard?
Or better...contact information?
Thank
-
Wow.
Pascal we expect yours to look like that soon.
Of course with a Canadian theme.

I'm not a CJ5 guy, but that is by far, the coolest 5 I've ever seen.
Tim
-
I am extremely jealous of the manuals you received with this Jeep..... Nice start!
-
I tryed to communicate via facebook with the owner of the Diesel CJ5 but he never answered.
https://www.facebook.com/jb.stoltzfus
I got two workshop manual for the perkins motor. They are basically the same. Should be able to sell\trade one after my project will be done.
I plan to start testing and the dismantlement of my CJ5 at the end of august (in two weeks during my vacation).
I will add pics of it on my own website here;
http://jeepwillysworld.com/blog/category/my-dj-6-1965-project/
-
The diesel CJ-5 is now at home! My vacation start next monday, not sure if i will be able to wait...
-
Hahaha
Great picture.
I love your 3A photobombing the diesel.
The 3A looks a little worried. It looks like it's thinking, "Will you still love me?"
;D ;D ;D
-
3A is not worried anymore. This is the RIP picture for the diesel jeep.
-
What do you mean RIP?
Is it dead?
Is it too far gone to restore?
What?
-
He's using the diesel drivetrain for his CJ-6 build. The 5 however doesn't look as bad as it used to. It probably is restorable.
-
I tested the motor yesterday. It starded very easily. I will post vido of it. Now i dont know what to do with it anymore, i found a 1"3/4 crack in the block. :-((((
-
Pascal,
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. :-/
Tim
-
Many cracks can be repaired.
-
JB Weld for non-critical areas.
Stiching for critical cracks.
-
Ok I tryed to post vids here but the forum is limited...
So I tryed to start my own channel on youtube here:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCggX9WvmZwKkXWzrtVKfafQ/feed
Does it work?
Or I also posted the link to youtube video on my own website here:
http://jeepwillysworld.com/blog/category/my-dj-6-1965-project/
Is it better?
Anyway, what I should do to fix it easily and quickly? I don't have a welder nor a friend with it... :-[
Loctite weld cold stuff, JB weld... other???
-
Personally I would not try to weld that block unless it was an expert welder with lots of experience welding engine blocks. To me it is the perfect candidate for stitching. http://www.locknstitch.com/
You could try epoxy but I think it would be a temporary repair. Another thought is modern block sealer that would be added to the coolant. They have come a long way since the good old days.
-
Interesting. I sended them an e-mail requesting more information about it. They will be able to see my vids and should reply with a proposition I guess. I'll let you know. Thank Bob.
Modified;
I already got an answer from locknstich.
"It looks like it is into the oil. You need to robe the oil pan and find pit where the crack comes through to the inside. It can be easily stitched but metal shavings cannot be allowed inside the crankcase. It is possible you may find the crack extends into a main bearing saddle or some where that could explain the cause of the crack. "
-
My block is actually broken and patched. Probably a big chunk missing under the patch. It's the opposite side of the block from the other perkins we've seen with a windowed block from #3. I've seen guys stitch powerstroke blocks, It should work for your perkins also.

-
That's a big patch.
I choose to go with JB Weld for now.
-
Be sure to let us know how the JB Weld worked.
It's always promoted as the miracle cure for all things broken.
I'd like to see it actually do some of the heavy duty repair it claims to do.
-
That's a big patch.

Yes. Very big patch indeed. Not sure who did it but it would not have been my repair method had I had the jeep at the time it went "bang!" If I ever pull the engine for rebuild, I will likely take the block to a professional welder to have it repaired correctly.
-
I have a T98 transmission with a DANA transfert case.
I was expecting a T86 with a spicer transfert case.
Pics will follow later
-
T98
-
That's very interesting. Mine has a T-90 as did most of them I believe. I've only seen evidence of one other diesel CJ with a T98.
-
A short update,
The engine is now in the garage. I will dismantle both diff tomorrow and trow away the frame.
-
Anyone here are familiar with a T98?
Look like I have extra spacer on the cross member from the tranny and I wonder if they were added because of the T98 or if it is just a Bubba stuff?
-
Also, the T98 should be a 4 speed trans, right?
So my shift pattern should look like:
-
that is the shift pattern of the T98 in my Dad's M38. I would make sure reverse is over and up and not over and down. That's the only thing I can't recall clearly 100%.
It looks like bubba work on the crossmember, however my Jeep has/had wood spacers that were between the frame and crossmember that I believe were stock spacers. Your jeep probably had something there also that was replaced by bubba with what's currently there.
-
originaly our 66 cj5 had a wood spacer at the trans crossmember at that very location.
-
ours is a t98 and d18 transfer 3 speed
