Title: Mini Repair Project for ODie
Post by: athawk11 on October 24, 2013, 05:12:33 PM
At the Fall Colors Tour this year, I was attempting to film a Willys Jeep that was rolling through the woopty-whoops. The trail got narrow and the speed was high. I ended up tangling with a few trees and shrubs. The result? A substantial scratch that ran the length of my Willys, ODie. I was devastated, but didn't want to dampen the mood with my disappointment.

When I got home, I quickly cleaned the mud, dirt and dust off ODie. I ordered new stencils from Military Stencils, then got busy removing the brackets, footman loops etc...

The scratch wasn't deep, but it couldn't be buffed out. Semi-gloss paint has many advantages, but buffing out a scratch isn't one of them. So, sanding down the panel was in order...

Good thing I have extra paint. As you can see, I covered everything I didn't want to paint, then watered the floor to keep the dust down, then shot some paint...

I let the paint cure for a month...

Set the stencils, painted them, then bolted all the stuff back on. It was time to put ODie back into his Fall jacket, so the top went back on. Took it for a spin to show the neighborhood that ODie is back to his old self again. All is right in world!...

Thank you for tuning in to my mini Willys project.

Or a reason to buy a couple spare Jeeps! ODie can be reserved for the light duty stuff and the beater rigs can be the trail buggies. Good thing you have a couple other Willys projects laying around the yard. You're going to need a bigger trailer :-)

Ryan, I like your way of thinking much better!  ;)
